The art space, located in Wollongong's Crown Street Mall, will hold the first of its Paint Mixer events at The Little Prince bar in Globe Lane tonight.

Aspiring artists and potential Picassos are invited to come along, have a drink, and take a painting class in the relaxed environment of a bar.

"We're trying to make art not so intimidating," Studio 19 director Nina Kourea said.

"Having workshops in bars or restaurants lets people who don't paint and aren't artists come in, relax with friends and just have a go."

Tonight's event will have Wollongong artist Tash Benten taking painters step-by-step through simple landscape or portrait pieces. The Little Prince manager Fiona Hill said she was keen to host more such events into the future.

"Especially on a weeknight, people are looking for more fun and interesting things to do," she said.

"It will be a nice relaxed night, and it's good to offer something a bit different through the week."

Ms Kourea said the idea of hosting art workshops in bars had been catching on around the world, and she was excited to bring the concept to Wollongong.

"Tash had been to a few of them in Sydney, she told us about it and we wanted to do it because there's nothing like it in Wollongong," she said.

"People sometimes get stressed or think they can't paint when we do a workshop in the gallery. In the bar, people can talk, relax and just paint. We want to nurture people's art skills."

The first Paint Mixer will be held at The Little Prince tonight from 6pm-8.30pm. Entry to the workshop is $25, and includes all paints, brushes and materials. Studio 19 is also running a two-for-one deal, where paying entrants can bring along a friend for free.
