Last Friday's Illawarra Women In Business Long Lunch and Expo Day was described as the biggest and best to date.
IWIB directors Glenda Papac and Delyse del Turco were delighted with the response and the quality of the speakers, Warwick Pleash, Mariette Rups-Donnelly, Treska Roden and Francine Bishop.
The event also supported the Illawarra Disability Trust's Annual Sony Camp.
Artist's $1000 grant
Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival Art Prize Committee and Austinmer Thirroul Lion's Club have announced an artist's grant of $1000 per year for the next three years.
Artists are invited to apply in writing by September 30 and the selected work would be featured at either the Art Prize Exhibition or Sculpture on the Shore at the 2014 Thirroul Seaside & Arts Festival next April.
NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe has launched a Facebook competition encouraging consumers and businesses in the Illawarra to name their favourite business.

As part of Adult Learners' Week, 20 students were recognised for gaining a nationally recognised qualification from IRT College through the "On Track" program.
The group of external students who have used IRT College to study and complete a Certificate III in Aged Care, included several participants who recently graduated from IRT's Young@Heart program and chose to continue their studies to help secure a position in the aged care industry.
When Sergeant Robert Minns of the NSW Police Force accepted the 2013 Emergency Services Officer Working in a Paid Capacity Award at the Pride of the Illawarra Awards recently, he was quick to thank the combined Rotary Clubs of the Illawarra and Dot Hennessy for organising a night that acknowledged the work of all emergency service personnel in the region.
Marking five years
NewDay Church in Figtree celebrated the fifth year of its WorldChangers mission work recently by encouraging its congregation to keep giving with the news it had pledged $500,000 over the four years to help people in need locally and around the world.
Dozens of volunteers from the church in O'Briens Road are also involved in the KidsHopeAus mentoring program, a chess club and a breakfast club at Farmborough Road, an inner-city meals program that provided a weekly meal and friendship in a local Department of Housing community at Mangerton and anti-bullying seminars in local high schools.
Boost to economy
Shoalhaven City Council's Sports Tourism Program continues to generate many benefits for the local economy. Council has achieved millions of dollars in new business this year by working in partnership with local sporting organisations and associations to secure high-profile state, national and international sporting events.
Opening of office
The Master Builders' Association of NSW has opened its new renovated office in Wollongong.

Five make finals
The Illawarra has five finalists in the 2013 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards on October 26.
