Dozens of employees at Gujarat NRE’s No.1 Colliery walked off the job this morning.
Day shift workers at the Russell Vale mine withdrew their labour this morning over a ‘‘number of issues and concerns’’ expressed by staff.
Gujarat NRE executive chairman Arun Jagatramka said the coking coal company was working with the CFMEU to resolve the issues.
He told the Mercury he expected that all matters would be successfully resolved in time for the afternoon shift to start work today.
Mr Jagatramka said Gujarat, along with other coal producers nationwide, was experience tough operating conditions, brought about by a drop in the international coal price and a still buoyant Australian dollar.
‘‘In these difficult times, the company is working at maintaining its workforce, rather than shedding jobs, as has happened elsewhere,’’ he said.
