It's Friday the 13th and in celebration guests at this year's Mission Australia Op Shop Ball are encouraged to come dressed in their ghoulish best.
Whether that means decking yourself out as a vampire or zombie, or breaking your scary '80s formal frock out of your wardrobe for the first time in 30 years, the only requirement is your clothing must be preloved.
The Op Shop Ball was held in the Illawarra for the first time last year. Justine Fitzgibbon, program manager for Mission Australia's Big Heart stores in NSW, said they had plans to make it an annual event.
"... A lot of balls and fund-raisers are black tie or formal, whereas people can get away with jeans and T-shirt for this. It's just a good night to let loose and have fun," she said.
Money raised from the ball, which is on tonight at the Bella Portofino in Wollongong, goes to Mission Australia. Guests will be entertained by Bianca Dye and Illawarra band the Villains.
