A man has been taken to Wollongong Hospital with minor injuries following a fire at a unit block in Allan Street this morning.
Police were called to the Wollongong property around 8.30am.
Officers from NSW Fire and Rescue attended the scene to assist with the situation, however, shortly after they arrived, the man allegedly set the ground-floor unit block on fire.
A number of residents were told to evacuate the three-storey building.
Firefighters donned breathing apparatus before entering the unit and extinguishing the fire.
The man sustained minor burns in the fire and was taken by ambulance to Wollongong Hospital.
One bedroom was believed to have been damaged by the blaze.
Allan Street was closed for a short time, however, it is now open and traffic is running smoothly.
The fire is under investigation.
