A man aged in his fifties was flown to Wollongong Hospital on Sunday after breaking his shoulder while push bike riding on a fire trail at Brokers Nose, near the F3 freeway.
Wollongong Fire and Rescue station officer Greg Faulkner said rough terrain meant emergency service personnel were forced to walk around 500 metres to access the man.
Around 4pm the man was walked to a location where the rescue helicopter was able to access him.
He was then flown to Wollongong Hospital.
Around 10 emergency service workers were involved in the operation.
