The IMB-funded Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Health Check Booth provided invaluable free heart health tests to Wollongong residents in recent weeks.
The booth visited Westfield Figtree, Westfield Warrawong and the IMB head office before heading off to the Shoalhaven and the Southern Highlands.
Among those lining up for a heart health check was IMB chief executive officer Robert Ryan.
He cited a recent survey by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showing three in four Australians aged 45 and above had risk factors for heart disease, Australia's No 1 killer.
Of the 810 people who were tested last year, one in four people were deemed at risk and recommended to consult with their GP.
The results were similar at Warrawong and Figtree during the past two weeks.
The combined statistics from both visits show that of the 215 people tested, more than 25 per cent were recommended to follow-up with their GP.
Of those tested in Wollongong, one in four participants tested positively for high cholesterol and 85 per cent of participants were aged 40 and over.
The health checks were conducted by a NSW registered nurse and included free testing of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels - all major risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
