Bulli-based business Fibre Optics Design and Construct has picked up a NSW Excellence Award from the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA).
The gong was the latest recognition for the delivery of major projects by general manager Michael McKeogh and his rapidly growing team.
Fibre Optics Design and Construct won the small contracting business category of the awards, held at Darling Harbour, for an upgrade to the communications network on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The project involved enhancements to various communication elements on the iconic structure.
The highlight for Mr McKeogh was the connection of fibre optics at the top of the bridge's arch for Sydney's spectacular 2012 New Year's Eve fireworks.
Mr McKeogh said the recognition was not only a win for the Bulli business but for all small businesses in the Illawarra.
"This NSW Excellence Award comes on the back of our National Excellence Award in Voice/Data in 2012," he said.
"To back up and take out this state award in 2013 is a testament to our great team, and a recognition of the technical excellence that's available in the Illawarra."
Fibre Optics Design and Construct will now represent NSW at the 2013 National NECA Awards.
"The award also proves that, whatever their size, Illawarra small businesses can take on some of the biggest projects."
