On the flip side to negative parent behaviour, Wollongong Bodyboarders report nothing but positive, enthusiastic contributions from their members.
While all sports can boast the positive parents, this Wollongong club is one of the leaders that prides itself on creating a positive, fun-filled competitive environment.
Club president Jason McCarthy said there was a large group of parents involved.
"If it's helping set up, packing up, running the barbecue, most parents decide to stay to watch their kids compete or even just enjoy the day out," Mr McCarthy said.
"Wollongong Bodyboarders are the 'grass-root' level for people who want to test their skills in a competition environment," he said.
"We have members with a range of skills from intermediate to professional and we help with teaching essential skills in surfing and tactics.
"This is the future of our rapidly growing sport and is the first taste of competition, a place to meet friends, have fun, and learn important social and life skills under the umbrella of a safe, well-managed, caring committee," Mr McCarthy said.
"It is also an environment where families can still be involved with their kids before 'growing up' out of the family unit."
