Highlights for Hope is inspiring serious businessmen and women and well-known identities from all over the Illawarra.
The support is generating a great exhibition of sportsmanship and the public is encouraged to follow up with a visit to one of the Highlights for Hope salons to enjoy a discount and a new colour to support the fund-raising campaign for the Light and Hope Clubhouse in the Illawarra.
Raffle tickets are also available at the salons for great prizes.
Graham Lancaster, lawyer and director of Access Law Group, took time out of his busy schedule to indulge in a real treat and play a role in the "sister act" at Sisters Hair Design in Wollongong.
Graham admits it is not uncommon for him to do a "selfie" ... clipper cut, that is! So all the attention he experienced at the salon was new for him.
Nada Klocovski chose to use a highlighting cap, which produces a more natural effect for very short and thick hair and is the most time-effective method for busy people.
Fine highlights were pulled through from the sides so Graham's natural colour dominated, gradually building up to thicker highlights at the top.
Graham was a model client and in good humour he joined in the fun by taking some "selfies" of the stages of his process - and was soon "starring" on the Highlights for Hope Facebook page. When the cap and bleach were removed, Nada applied a L'Oreal Milkshake toner.
Graham was then treated to a conditioning massage followed by a little styling and finishing with a swish of L'Oreal texturising wax.
Graham is thoroughly enjoying his new blond look which is attracting some interesting comments - and a few laughs.
He says: "Two bald guys were discussing some business with me at a meeting and asked me to explain the blond, so I told them about Highlights for Hope and the initiative with the salons of the Illawarra.
"Tongue in cheek, they too wanted to know how they could have some highlights to support this cause? I told them I would get back to them!" chuckled Graham.
So it would seem I will need to feature some interesting ways for men with shiny tops so they too can enjoy some highlights to support this cause.
Sisters Salon, in Burelli St, Wollongong has invited Graham back for his next "do" to support his plan to maintain his highlights for Mental Health Month.
It was a real blast from the past working beside the sisters, Rosey and Nada. Rosey was with me for 23 years, from my very first salon. Then along came Nada, Rosey's younger sister who served her apprenticeship with me and worked through all those years with Rosey.
Congratulations to the sisters.
