As the Illawarra Hawks get set to launch their new season, Tyson Demos is red hot to trot.
Heads up with an extra pair of wings on top, he'll no doubt be flying with real Highlights for Hope as pre-season matches get under way this season.
When salon owner Brittany Kozel and I put our heads and tools together to create a show-stopping new look for Tyson, shooting guard with the Illawarra Hawks, we decided the sky would be the limit.
Brittany was keen to paint the town red with her salon's fantasy colour, Manic Panic. We decided colour shade red fire would provide just the right gusto and brilliant contrast against his new white-hot blond canvas in support of Highlights for Hope - and of course, to head-up a red and white start to the Illawarra Hawks season, due to launch in October.
Tyson Demos is a regular client at Brittany's Salon, 141 Keira Street, Wollongong, and when I asked him what he enjoys most at the salon, he was quick to point out he loves something daring and different and gives Brittany free range to do what ever she likes with new, fun ideas.
"I tell her to just go for it," he said, with a smile that gave me all the invitation I needed to get on with our Highlights plan.
Having discussed a playful idea with Brittany, she invited me to track a design that would be right out there, reflect the Illawarra Hawks logo - and ultimately spread good bright spirit in support of Highlights for Hope. Tyson was up for it - and so the adventure began.
Brittany applied a full head bleach with her exclusive colour line, La Biosthetique, which is found in just two salons of the Illawarra. Once the colour had reached a white-cream, we rinsed the bleach off - at which stage Tyson commented on how much he appreciates the comfort of the salon's massage-recliner basin chairs, along with the attention he receives with a well-executed shampoo and scalp massage.
It was now time for my part in the process as I undertook the tracking of this contemporary and very adventurous design through Tyson's shaved short hair. Once the design-outline was finished we followed up with the final colour contrasts which we applied section by section.
Brittany's Salon opened in Keira Street 11 weeks ago and she describes it as a place to make people look and feel beautiful.
While Tyson will be flying high in support of Highlights for Hope this October, Brittany will be doing a bit of her own high flying when she jets off to New York with the La Biosthetique National Artistic Team to style hair for one of the major fashion runway shows.
Brittany is delighted to be selling raffle tickets in support of the Light and Hope Clubhouse.
