The Illawarra is rapidly becoming known as the home of folk with the inaugural Folk by the Sea Festival starting on Friday.
Billed as an intimate music event featuring folk, world, Celtic, bluegrass, roots and gypsy music, the festival replaces the Folk in the Foothills event held in Jamberoo.
The festival has been organised by the Illawarra Folk Club which also hosts the Illawarra Folk Festival at Bulli.
Folk by the Sea will take place at Kiama Showground and Pavilion today and tomorrow and moves to Hindmarsh Park on Sunday.
Artists performing at the event include Casey Donovan, David Doyle, Ami Williamson, Crooked River Bluegrass and The Rusty Datsuns.
