Free property maintenance workshops are being offered to Housing NSW tenants as part of the Barrack Heights Community Round Table initiative.
The Barrack Heights Builders project will teach tenants how to change tap washers and fix doors, fly screens and holes in walls.
The free workshops are funded by a Housing NSW grant provided to the Illawarra Forum.
Non-profit organisation Habitat for Humanity will run the workshops, which will take place at Barrack Heights Public School from 10am to 1pm on three Saturdays, October 12, 19 and 26, and 3.30pm to 5.30pm on the Mondays, October 14, 21 and 28.
A free art project will be run for children during the programs and free sausage sandwiches supplied from a barbecue during the courses.
Shellharbour City Council established the community round table group in collaboration with the Illawarra Forum, police and Housing NSW to provide the community with new opportunities.
"Council has fostered the round table group to enhance community well-being and address the ongoing social issues within Barrack Heights," Mayor Marianne Saliba said.
