Illawarra Business Chamber's new chief executive, Debra Murphy, has embraced Highlights for Hope with a cut and colour adventure at the Aria Salon in Wollongong.
As Mental Health Month got under way, Debra was treated to highlights and a new style in preparation for the launch of the Wollongong Hawks' season at the chamber's Business After Hours.
Debra was right in the spirit with Highlights for Hope - a campaign to raise awareness and funding for the Light and Hope Clubhouse, and keen to embrace an edgier-than-usual look.
"My own family have been affected and I am fully aware of the need to raise awareness and funds for this cause - and to lighten the stigma that has been a problem in the past," Debra says.
As a new client, the consultation at Aria Hair was quite an affair.
Debra told salon proprietor Allysan Lokker about her teens, when a gleaming mane of long, auburn-red hair was her crowning glory. We decided it was time to revisit this period, and include a few highlights from her teenage palette.
The Matrix Colour range offered the perfect solution and so a new formula was established and the process began - but not before we re-tracked and revamped Debra's cut and style. A modern retro '60s look was adopted to suit her face and head shape.
A shingle was shaped right into the nape at the back of the head, where finely tracked layers provided a focal point which was further enhanced with varying shades of auburn-gold. Following the line of the cut, a statement of defined highlights was featured at the front, in a lighter honey-blonde which contrasted against the main deeper rich auburn tone.
Debra's warm brown eyes and fair-creamy skin were complemented beautifully with her new colour.
"I love it," she said in true Highlight for Hope spirit.
During the Hawks' season launch, business people showed great support for Highlights for Hope, buying raffle tickets to aid fund-raising for the clubhouse. The raffle will be drawn at the Novotel Northbeach on November 6, following the conclusion of Mental Health Month.
Set in a gracious, older-style home, Aria Hair is a very busy and sophisticated salon yet maintains a happy and relaxed atmosphere.
Allysan is very glad her salon is among the the Highlights for Hope salons. She, too, has friends who have been affected by mental health issues and acknowledges just how appropriate the hairdressing industry is in this campaign.
"We have had very positive feedback from our clients and the staff are really committed to the cause," she said.
