Motorists heading away for the long weekend are advised to allow extra travel time as there is already heavy holiday traffic in the South Coast, Hunter region and Far North Coast.
On the South Coast the Transport Management Centre is reporting heavy southbound traffic on the Princes Highway in Kiama.
In the Hunter northbound traffic is heavy on the Pacific Motorway (F3) at Beresfield, and eastbound traffic is heavy on the New England Highway between Tarro and Hexham.
On the Far North Coast southbound traffic is heavy on the Pacific Motorway in Ewingsdale, and is queued back 1.5km.
Motorists travelling in these locations should expect delays and plan their trip.
Meantime, NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol has reminded drivers that double demerits are in place during the long weekend, and to slow down.
Operation Slow Down, the annual October long-weekend traffic-enforcement campaign, started yesterday and will run until 11.59pm on Monday.
Double demerits will apply for all speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle-helmet offences.
