Mount Kembla's Cameron Walters has his sights set high in the Australian motor sport industry, with ambitions to one day race in the V8 Supercars.
The 21-year-old race driver leads the NSW Formula Ford 1600 and Historic Championships, but dreams of progressing through the racing classes to earn a crack at the upper echelon of Australian Racing.
"I wouldn't mind ending up in the V8 supercars down the track, but it is such a hard game," Walters said.
"You have got to progress [through the ranks] you can't go up there and just be there unless you have got the money and the experience."
Walters hopes to take the next step through the racing ranks in 2014 with plans to move up in class to the national Formula Ford Championship.
Although the national competition was axed earlier this year, it is set to launch under a new banner in conjunction with the Shannons National Series in 2014.
Walters will race at the NSW Formula Ford Championship at Wakefield Park on October 19.
He is looking forward to checking out the competition.
"At the nationals it will also be a good look to see what the fields are like because the nationals might be running the Formula Ford National next year which is something we are looking to go into," Walters said.
"It will be a great and bigger event being a national round and it would be great to see everyone out there as it gets a bit more competitive as the season gets to the end.
"I am excited and really looking forward to it."
As the leader of both the NSW 1600 and Historic Formula Ford classes, Walters is on the right path to emulate the stardom of past Formula Ford National series stars like Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.
But before the young university student mixes it on the national stage, he will need to get the job done at Wakefield Park.
"After three rounds at Eastern Creek it is a great change to go to Wakefield Park," Walters said.
"It is a completely different track, a lot tighter corners and a lot slower straights compared to Eastern Creek.
"I have always liked Wakefield, I love the track. I did Go Karts there in 2007 so it will be great to go back."
