Trainer Robert Price secured a dream result on home soil in the Nowra Cup (1600m) yesterday when his stable pairing Ramsays Curse and Too Hi Tek secured the quinella in the rescheduled feature.
After expecting both of his cup challengers to give the mile race a good crack, Price watched on with joy as his contenders beat home pre-race favourite Sailor’s Farewell.
‘‘Both horses were really on top of their game,’’ Price said.
‘‘I am really happy with both of those horses, they both presented themselves as 10 out of 10 and then performed accordingly.’’
Ramsays Curse had travelled just off the speed in third position before moving off the fence to challenge at the top of the straight.
The son of Brahms burst into the frame and always looked the winner over the concluding stages, as apprentice Yusuke Ichikawa booted him home for a three-quarters of a length win over of stablemate Too Hi Tek and Sailor’s Farewell.
The win was the eight-year-old’s second in succession after he claimed the Tony Campbell Memorial Cup Open at Canberra last start.
‘‘He has probably found the biggest purple patch of his career at the moment, Ramsays Curse,’’ Price said.
‘‘He likes those dry tracks and we have got plenty of them at the moment which is making his form look pretty consistent.’’
‘‘The other little horse is just a consistent little horse for the stable.
‘‘I only really kept him going for the Nowra Cup so I would have a runner and he is first-up for the mile after a month or two off. He has done a really good job but just ran out of petrol that last little bit.’’
Ramsays Curse will now be targeted at defending his Anniversary Cup title in Goulburn.
Price was due to send three gallopers in the Cup but decided to scratch the seven year-old gelding Fine Drop in favour of a start at Warwick Farm today.
Earlier on the card, Clarry Conners’ mare Recess jumped out of the ground over the final furlong to claim the Belle Of The South (1200m).
The four-year-old by Choisir settled towards the rear of the field on the back of hot speed from Tempo Rouge and La Charge, before powering over the top of Sheazali and Courage To Dance.
