They play rugby league and are set to join the under 20s Dragon team next year, so for Tory Brunning, Euan Aitken and Adam Clune, the PDHPE exam had some practical benefits.
The students joined 24 others in their class at Illawarra Sports High for the HSC exam yesterday morning.
Tory, 17, said he could relate to a lot of the questions, ‘‘because of my sporting background in footy’’.
‘‘It was easy to talk about the protein and creatine. The course taught me about energy systems and training programs so I could apply all of those.
‘‘I thought the exam wasn’t too bad. I studied quite a bit during the holidays and did a few study sessions with my mates. It made it easier studying with someone.’’
Classmate Euan, 18, also thought the exam was fair: ‘‘The things I studied were in the exam. I’d be disappointed with anything lower than 80per cent’’. The 18-year-old played for the under 20s Dragons team this year and will rejoin them again next year: ‘‘I want to play NRL, I’ve been pursuing it’’.
One question caught out Adam, 18, in the exam. ‘‘The supplementation question was worth five marks and I didn’t think it would be worth that much. I thought I answered it pretty well anyway.’’
The 18-year-old had four exams in four days, including Legal Studies being held today. ‘‘I managed to organise my time pretty well and felt pretty confident in the exam. It’s one of my favourite subjects.’’
Head teacher of PDHPE, Chris Meizerm, said the paper was fair although he thought some students would struggle with the supplementation question.
