RFS crews extinguished a grass fire burning in Coomaditchie Reserve, near Warrawong, last night.
Tankers were called in to fight the blaze, while a fixed-wing aircraft doused the fire from above.
Illawarra Rural Fire Service inspector Michael Gray said it was vital for residents on the coast to also prepare for ember attacks from fires burning to the west.
"We still have that westerly wind at the moment - residents need to be mindful of fire for the next few days," he said.
"We've had reports today of burning leaves landing on houses near the beaches.
"It's not just residents who live in the bush under threat."
