Shellharbour pooches had the chance to strut their stuff on Saturday at the Dogs Day Out at Reddall Reserve at Lake Illawarra.
After enjoying a brisk walk around the park with their friends, hounds with star quality took part in a mini pageant and parade, with awards for Mr Macho, Miss Diva, Sweetest Scruff, Happiest Scruff and Perfect Puppy.
Quick-footed pups showed off their skills on an obstacle course, with the fittest and fastest taking out the award for agility champion.
The best barker, the best dressed and dog with the waggiest tail and wettest nose were also awarded for their talents.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said there were between 50 and 100 dogs and their families at the five-hour event organised by Shellharbour City Council.
‘‘It was also a really good opportunity for dogs to socialise with other dogs. I’ve got two little shih tzus and the male has a bit of an attitude, and when he gets around bigger dogs it gives him a chance to learn something,’’ she said.
‘‘We had a good day and lots of families with their dogs turned up.’’
About 20 dogs were given the free micro chipping available to Shellharbour residents.
As well as the awards, canines and their leash-holders could also take part in 1.6-kilometre walk to raise money for DCH Animal Adoptions.
