Adam Tracey hammered nine sixes in a blistering 119 as Kookas shocked premiers Lake Illawarra in Saturday’s round two South Coast clash at Oakleigh Park.
Thrashed by Shellharbour outright in round one, Kookas chased down the Lakers 8-192 to post 294, with Lake hit by the absence of injured skipper Shane Cody and several others.
Tracey enjoyed the short boundaries and sent one ball through the trees and on to Shellharbour Road in an awesome batting display.
‘‘Adam missed the Shellharbour game and we missed him,’’ Kookas skipper Gerard Healey said.
‘‘He batted really well ... it must have only been an 80 to 90-ball knock.
‘‘It’s always great to beat Lake who have been big rivals of ours for a while now.’’
Meanwhile, Oak Flats were given a fright before chasing down Kiama’s 241 at Keith Grey Oval.
With Michael Arblaster leading the way with a fine 103 and supported by Keiran Gray (43), Oak Flats were cruising to victory at 4-210.
But a 4-18 collapse left them still needing 14 for victory with only 10 batsmen on the day, before the last pair, Andy Twyford (11 not out) and Joel Gray (4 not out), guided the Rats home.
‘‘It was a bit nervous at the end, but for three-quarters of the day, we were cruising,’’ Oak Flats skipper Ryan Chatterton said.
Kiama’s Dan Reilly said his team spilt crucial catches, but praised Arblaster.
‘‘We dropped a chance the first and second over, which summed it up,’’ Reilly said.
‘‘But Arblaster didn’t give a chance, he’s a very classy bat.’’
Meanwhile, Shellharbour (203) rolled The Rail for 104, with Billy Hunt taking 5-23.
Albion Park (288) dismissed a spirited Gerringong/Jamberoo for 164.
Matt George (34) top scored for Gerringong.
