Most of the hair is grey or gone, the eyesight is not what it used to be and the waistlines have expanded since their playing days.
But the pride and passion has not waned for the original Hawks, who will be part of Saturday night’s celebrations at WIN Entertainment Centre for the club’s historic 1000th NBL game.
Members of the 1979 Illawarra Hawks – the club changed its name to Wollongong Hawks in 1998 – will be presented to the crowd on court during the ceremony.
Forming a line on the opposite side of the court will be players from the 2001 championship-winning team – the only Hawks side to win a title in the club’s 34-year existence.
Club officials are hoping a big crowd turns out to celebrate the milestone occasion.
The Hawks are the NBL’s sole remaining original club from that 1979 season and the first club to reach the 1000-game mark.
Hawks management are also calling on all the club’s past players to attend the game and take part in celebrations.
Plenty of reasonably priced tickets are available through Ticketek and from Hawks headquarters at Beaton Park.
Saturday’s tip off is 7.30pm.
