Travelling the world as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters certainly has its perks.
Hoopla caught up with players Moose Weekes and Dizzy Grant last week and heard some weird and wonderful stories.
‘‘I got to travel to Iraq and I was on an aircraft carrier, and I saw the fighter planes come and land on the aircraft carrier at night,’’ Grant said.
‘‘That’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my experience as a Globetrotter.’’
Weekes’s interesting pre-game routine includes listening to country rap music, drinking coconut water and eating bee pollen. The Globetrotters are heading to Wollongong tonight to play at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
‘‘Dizzy’s one of the world’s best dribblers and you’ll definitely see some of the traditional ball-handling and dribbling skills displayed at our game on Tuesday,’’ Weekes said.
‘‘You’ll also see some crazy, high-flying dunks and a lot of that normal Globetrotter magic that you’re used to over the last 88 years.
‘‘We practise our craft every day – day in, day out. We always try to keep a basketball with us while we’re travelling and when we’re at home.’’
