Recently re-elected Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba is not only sporting red highlights in her hair this week, but she is also showering gold over Highlights for Hope in support of the Light and Hope Clubhouse.
Marianne declared ‘‘mufti day’’ at Shellharbour Council was a golden opportunity to show support for Mental Health Month, with council employees dedicating a gold coin donation to Highlights for Hope.
“This campaign is a brighter than usual statement in support of Mental Health and demonstrates how well our community can work together,’’ Marianne said.
“This salon initiative is a very effective way of building real awareness within the community for the urgent needs of the Light and Hope Clubhouse in the Illawarra.”
Proprietor of Dapto Hair and Beauty Lea Hanson stepped up to the challenge of highlighting Marianne’s hair with something a little more adventurous than usual.
“I want to make a real statement with my hair to demonstrate my personal support to this campaign,” she said.
Senior stylist Chloe Foster got to work with a combination of woven highlights and a colour refresher to enhance the natural rich auburn tone, and finally a few fantasy red highlights from the Goldwell Elumen range were featured at the top and down one side of Marianne’s hair.
The salon, located on the Princes Highway at Dapto, is a true one stop for all hair, nails and beauty services. One of the Illawarra’s largest salons, the busy team of nine keep the salon really pumping with head-to-toe services. Practising for 20 years, Lea is also one of the Illawarra’s most highly respected technicians and experienced educators in nail enhancement.
“I really enjoy my work and the salon offers such a scope of services and caters to all ages. Fashion is always on the move and techniques are constantly updating, so every day brings something different and challenging, you never get bored,” Lea said.
When Chloe finished with Marianne’s styling, a light make-up was applied and finally a last treat was in store when Marianne was seated for a pedicure.
“You know,” she said, “this very shop was my first campaign office and here I am today sitting in the same space being pampered with all things nice.’’
I asked Marianne what she enjoys most about her political life and as the Mayor of Shellharbour and without hesitation, and with a warm smile on her face, she said:
“I am very passionate about my community and the most rewarding aspect in my position is the satisfaction I get from empowering the community. I pride myself on being very approachable and I am a good listener. I am fortunate to be part of a region that is on the move.’’
