Workers were busy in the mall yesterday, planting trees and completing other works needed before the barrier fences come down.
Work began last night to remove signs and temporary lighting and the fencing will start coming down tonight. It is scheduled to be removed by Friday.
Construction work will be put on hold for three months to give shoppers and shop owners a break from noisy drilling, digging and paving over the busy Christmas and New Year period.
Stage two of the mall refurbishment will begin in February.
Friday is also the day when the mall becomes a smoke-free zone, with cigarette smoking banned.
