MERCURY SERIES - Making A Difference
There is nothing more important than putting a smile on the face of a young child.
That’s what Penny Bedford is trying to do with an event she has organised at the Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow on November 8.
‘‘The fund-raiser is called An Evening of Smiles,’’ Ms Bedford said.
‘‘All funds raised will go to Operation Smile Vietnam. They are an organisation who repair cleft lips and or palates on babies and children in Vietnam.’’
Tickets sales have already been strong and Seacliff Function Centre and Restaurant is just one example of many businesses who have supported the event with prizes.
Ms Bedford’s passion for the cause came after seeing what doctors who volunteer their time to Operation Smile Vietnam could do to help children.
‘‘I have been on two missions to Vietnam and witnessed their life-changing work firsthand,’’ she said. ‘‘I have a team of five people helping me with the fund-raising event. Joseph Russo from Russo & Co Accounting is one of them. Our MC and auctioneer is Leigh Stewart.’’
It is not the first time Ms Bedford has organised an Operation Smile Vietnam fund-raiser.
In November 2011 she held a similar event in the Shellharbour area that raised $36,000 thanks to community and business support.
This time she wanted to bring it further north to give more Wollongong people an opportunity to participate in such a great cause.
She said tickets to the evening were only $50 and tables of 10 were available.
Guests will enjoy entertainment from Wollongong rock’n’roll covers band The Blue Rays and local dancer Cassidy Richardson.
Tickets can be purchased through Kiama Lions Club Vietnam Children’s Fund, BSB 012709, account 494513411 and by sending an email to bianca@russoan dco.com with a name and other details. For further information contact Penny Bedford on 0430310023.
