The NSW Rural Fire Service has totally banned the lighting of fires for the New England, Northern Slopes, North Western, Upper Central West Plains, Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Greater Sydney Region, Greater Hunter, North Coast and Far North Coast.
The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has rated the fire danger in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven as severe.
Wollongong is expected to reach a top of 31 degrees and Nowra a top of 29. The forecast is for winds tending west to southwesterly 30-40km/h in the morning before tending southeast to southwesterly 25-35km/h in the evening. The temperature is expected to drop back to around 20 degrees tomorrow.
