The season kicks off in February with Merrigong’s own The Man Who Dreamt The Stars.
This new work has been produced in association with the Disability Trust and features an ensemble of performers including some who have intellectual disabilities.
In June, legendary Australian playwright David Williamson will direct a cast of top Australian actors including Henri Szeps, Helen Dallimore and Peter Phelps, in his latest satirical comedy Cruise Control.
Coming from across the sea, punters can look forward to the critically acclaimed New Zealand musical The Factory.
A Samoan-based musical about a woman with big dreams and a brighter future, Merrigong has dubbed the musical a ‘‘large-scale, hugely entertaining and pitch-perfect musical’’ making it a must-see for theatregoers.
In September, the South Australia State Theatre Company will stage the Oscar Wilde classic The Importance of Being Earnest. Other highlights from the 2014 season line up include productions by the Bell Shakespeare Company, a Belvoir and Malthouse Theatre co-production, and a collaboration between Sydney Theatre Company and the Australian Defence Force.
Merrigong chief executive and artistic director Simon Hinton said the 2014 season catered for everybody.
‘‘If you are someone that just wants to see something mainstream and just have a good night out – nothing too challenging – you can easily pick five shows and book a season ticket of great theatre,’’ he said.
‘‘If you’re someone who wants to see something a little bit more innovative, adventurous and cutting-edge there is a bunch of shows in there that you can choose [from] as well.’’
