Derby organisers from Red Point Artists’ Association have arranged for local creatives to paint more than 30 of the panels with the theme ‘‘Port Kembla as I see it’’.
The panels are more than two metres tall and showcase the area’s coast, characters and billy carts, which association president Dulcie Dal Molin said had long been synonymous with the suburb.
‘‘All the shops that are occupied are going to be open on [derby day],’’ Ms Dal Molin said.
‘‘The panels are going to be on unoccupied shop fronts along the street.’’
More than 100 drivers will contest this year’s races.
