The night was the first event in the 2013-14 Australian Cup series.
Mason achieved the high score of the night on a bull called Fright Night, which put him in the lead.
Texas rider Harve Stewart followed him and had a chance to steal the trophy away from Mason but he was unable to stay on the previously unridden Sports Machine.
One rider, Matt Boland, had a less than ideal introduction to the Australian Cup Series.
The Queensland rider was making his debut at Wollongong when he was bucked off a bull early in the evening.
The bull then charged at Boland and pushed him along the ground and into a steel pole at the side of the arena, PBR Professional Bull Riders Australia general manager Glen Young said.
The 28-year-old was taken by ambulance to Wollongong Hospital with head injuries.
Mr Young said it was a precautionary measure in case of concussion. It is understood Boland was discharged from hospital yesterday morning
