The Woonona Bulli RSL Club board announced the decision on Thursday night.
The board said the decision would not affect the RSL club’s main premises on the Princes Highway at Woonona, which will continue to offer its full range of services.
General manager of both clubs, Michael Brennan, said the decision to close the Bulli Bowling Club was ‘‘a last resort’’ and followed protracted discussions about the club’s negative financial impact on the RSL club’s overall operations.
Mr Brennan said that in recent years the RSL club had implemented strategies to reduce the bowling club’s losses, however ‘‘harsh economic realities and competition from other bowling clubs and venues in the area meant the bowling club was no longer financially viable’’.
In the past five years, the bowling club’s cumulative losses had passed more than $500,000, Mr Brennan said.
The RSL club plans to offer financial assistance to its bowlers to help establish them at another bowling club of their choice.
All bowling club employees would be redeployed at the RSL club, he said.
