Some of Australia’s world and Olympic stars will compete against local cyclists and internationals in the final round of the NSW Grand Prix Cycling on a scenic 660-metre circuit on Flagstaff Hill, making the most of a backdrop featuring beaches, the boat harbour, headland and lighthouse. The Masters race pedals off at 11.30am. Women riders will race 20 kilometres around the circuit followed by the men, who will race 54 laps – a total distance of 36 kilometres. 33rd Annual Italian Festival, Sunday
In its 33rd year, the festival will begin with a mass at St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Wollongong, at 10.30am, followed by a procession to the Sacred Heart Chapel in Stewart Street.
Cultural events include Italian food stalls, rides, entertainment and markets at the Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow from midday. Tickets $20.
Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles, until December 7
More than 200 of Australia’s best junior surfers in under-14, under-16 and under-18 age groups will be in Kiama for this event. Four beaches – Werri Beach, Surf Beach, Jones’ Beach and Bombo Beach – will be available to make the most of the conditions. School surfing will also feature, with competitors chasing the Australian School Surfing Association titles. Details here.
