It was while visiting the Blue Mountains earlier this year, that David and Jennifer Munn first came across the eco-friendly, all-terrain Segway Personal Transporter.

Less than two months later, 10 of the machines were on their way from the United States to be part of the new business venture Segway Tours South Coast.
"We saw them on holidays and thought they were a great idea," Mr Munn said.
"We found other operators were using them mainly for the enjoyment of riding a segway.
"What we have tried to do is combine riding a segway with some fantastic scenery and a tour where you learn something about the area you are riding in."
In June, the tours kicked off at the Silos Winery at Jaspers Brush. They quickly expanded to other locations such as Coolangatta Estate and more recently, Killalea State Park.
"Our plan has always been to operate in multiple places to show off different parts of the South Coast," Mr Munn said.
"At this stage, we are focused around Killalea but still operating at other places ... we can operate anywhere there is space and we have permission of the owner.
"Killalea was very attractive to us because it is representative of the South Coast, it is a large park of 265 hectares and it is a safe place to operate.
"Our eco-friendly, eco-tourism approach fits in well with the park.
"Another advantage of being here is we can take people to parts of Killalea they wouldn't normally get to see.
"Segways are a great way to get around and see those sorts of locations."
Contrary to what some may think, the self-balancing machines, which can reach speeds of 20km/h, are very easy to operate.
Children as young as 12 can take the adventure tours, while kids as young as 10 can participate in the starter course and have a go on the grassed area of the park.
"We had a group today and they had all picked it up within two minutes each.
"The age limits are mainly about weight," Mr Munn said.
The machines do have a weight limit of 117 kilograms.
For Mr Munn personally, the segways are part of a lifestyle shift away from a career in a large global corporate IT firm.
"It is a big change, and one that was planned - we just didn't know it was going to involve segways."
The tours are also proving popular with corporate clients.
Segway tours from 30 to 90 minutes are available at Killalea State Park, ranging from a $39 Segway Starter to the $69 Lagoon Tour and the $89 Farm Beach tour. Tours accommodate a maximum of eight riders.
