However motorists are experiencing significant delays northbound on the Hume Highway at Marulan after a single vehicle accident at Munro Road.
One northbound lane is closed and northbound traffic is queued 4km approaching the accident site.
Emergency services and traffic management crews are on site working to clear the accident and fully reopen the Highway.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area, allow extra travel time and expect delays.
2.25pm: Heavy traffic has eased at Albion Park Rail, Berry, Milton and Ulladulla but delays are still being experienced at the Kiama Bends - southbound traffic is queued 2km on the Princes Highway adding 10 minutes travel time.
1.40pm: Albion Park Rail - northbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway between Lake Entrance Road and the Illawarra Highway.
Kiama Bends - southbound traffic is queued 3km on the Princes Highway adding 15 minutes travel time.
Berry - northbound traffic is queued 1.5km on the Princes Highway adding 10 minutes travel time.
Milton - southbound traffic is queued 3km on the Princes Highway adding 15 minutes travel time.
Ulladulla - northbound traffic is queued 5km on the Princes Highway adding 20 minutes travel time.
11.55am: Holidaymakers heading towards the South Coast again face lengthy delays on the Princes Highway today.
Traffic is again heavy at Milton where southbound traffic is queued 2km on the Princes Highway adding 10 minutes travel time.
On Friday, holidaying motorists heading south got caught up in a traffic queue at the Kiama bends which stretched as far as 13 kilometres - and adding 75 minutes to a trip - at one stage.
The problems extending into Kiama itself with traffic on South Kiama Drive also at a standstill.
There were also delays at Berry and Milton.
Saturday’s delays did not reach those levels but the NSW Traffic Management Centre was reporting traffic queues of 5.5 kilometres at Gerringong, creating delays of 20 minutes.
A three-car accident on South Kiama Drive added to the problems.
Berry saw a southbound traffic queue of a kilometre on the Princes Highway and, at Milton, there was a 1.5 kilometre traffic queue.
Further south at North Batemans Bay eastbound traffic along the Kings Highway approaching the Princes Highway was banked back for three kilometres.
Heavy traffic is expected to continue later this week, with northbound delays expected at places such as Berry as many holiday makers return home for New Year celebrations.
‘‘Motorists are advised to plan their trip, allow plenty of additional travel time, expect delays and take regular breaks,’’ a Transport Management Centre spokesman said.
