In May 2010 the NSW government announced that plans for an eco-tourism development in the park had been scrapped after an agreement between developers and the Killalea State Park Trust was terminated.
The initial Killalea proposal from Babcock & Brown and Mariner Financial was for 202 residential lodges, pools, tennis courts, restaurants and a conference centre.
