Workers in Wollongong's CBD will be able to park in the city for longer from today, thanks to an extension of parking zones at two council-run car parks.
Wollongong City Council's 32-space Rawson Street car park will be increased from four hours to eight hours, with the hourly rate decreased from 75 cents to 60 cents.
The maximum daily cost for parking at the site will be $4.80.
The 28-space Atchison Street car park will also increase, from two hours to three hours, with the hourly rate dropping from $1 to 75 cents.
The council's property and recreation services manager, Peter Coyte, said the council regularly reviewed how spaces were used and had identified a need for drivers to be able to stay longer at those two sites
"The Rawson Street site in particular has been popular with people working all day in the city, and this time increase will make parking easier for those drivers," he said.
The council offers 440 off-street metered parking spaces throughout the city in eight car parks.
There are also 620 off-street permanently leased spaces at four car parks, 155 free off-street parking spaces for four hours in the Stewart Street East car park and 778 on-street metered car parking spaces in the central business district.
All council parking in the CBD is free before 8.30am and after 4.30pm weekdays, as well as at weekends and public holidays.
Time limits apply on Saturdays between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
