Kids' Uni director Debbie Foster has found a solution to the difficult problem of keeping 75 children entertained during the holidays - a giant waterslide.

To the squealing delight of children attending vacation care, the water ride appeared on the grounds of the Fairy Meadow Kids' Uni centre yesterday.

With more hot days on the way, Ms Forster said she had tried to schedule activities based on keeping her young charges cool.

"It gets so hot so we try to have water activities as many times as we can. Kids love it," she said.

Krish Gupta, 9, managed to conquer his initial fear of heights to ride the slide several times.

"I was a bit nervous at first but once you start going down the slide it's really fun," he said.

The Cordeaux Heights youngster said attending Kids' Uni was "the most fun thing I've done all holidays".

"My favourite was paintball day when we filled water guns with paint and squirted each other. I was all different colours," he said.

Xena Kittscha, 10, said the vacation care program kept her busy between school terms.

"I love playing with the water. It stops me from getting bored in the holidays."

The non-profit centre has been at capacity for most of the holidays and has a waiting list.

"In the past three years, enrolments have gone through the roof. Kids are coming from all over the Illawarra," Ms Foster said.
