Wollongong locals will be able to meet six animals in need of a family on Saturday, February 15, at Petbarn, West Wollongong.
Illawarra RSPCA shelter manager Judith Wright said events like this were great for finding animals new homes.
“There are so many animals looking for forever homes,” Ms Wright said.
“It’s very important that we can place animals with people so they can have a really good, enjoyable life.”
The Illawarra RSPCA has 45 animals looking for homes.
“Unfortunately people don’t like coming to a shelter because they think it’s very sad and they do get upset,” Ms Wright said.
There will be a range of animals on that day and an adoption can be completed on the same day.
From the time the RSPCA receives an animal they are checked by a vet, have their behaviour assessed, desexed if necessary, treated for worms and microchipped.
Petbarn store manager Mitch Hook said Valentine’s Day was a great time for people to welcome a new family member.
