Car fire causes traffic jam on Mt Ousley Rd

7.45PM UPDATE: The car has been extinguished and is off the road, but debris is still being cleaned up.

6.45PM: Motorists should avoid travelling northbound on Mount Ousley Road this evening after a car fire has brought traffic to a standstill.

One lane has been closed after a car towing a caravan caught fire on Mount Ousley Road, north of Picton Rd, just after 6pm.

Emergency services reported the driver escaped the car unharmed, but the car was completely destroyed.

Traffic is currently backed up for at least two kilometres.

The NSW Traffic Management Centre is advising motorists use the Princes Hwy as an alternative, if possible.

Southbound traffic is also heavy on Mount Ousley Rd as motorists have slowed down to look at the scene.
