Husband dies after Gerringong fire

A 90-year-old man who jumped from a balcony to escape his burning Gerringong house on Monday has died in hospital.

Eric Wagstaff had suffered serious burns in the Geering Street blaze but managed to escape by jumping from a first floor balcony.

His 88-year-old wife Lillian died in the house fire.

Mr Wagstaff was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital on Monday, where he remained until he died yesterday afternoon.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious and Lake Illawarra police are preparing a report for the coroner.
