Corrimal actor Robina Beard has been brilliantly cast in her latest role - as a NSW Seniors Week ambassador.

The fun-loving, charismatic grandmother has graced the stage and small screen for decades, and is remembered by many for her long-running role as Madge the manicurist on a Palmolive liquid detergent ad.

The 75-year-old is one of 11 senior ambassadors chosen to share their stories and their wisdom with thousands of people across the state during Seniors Week, starting March 15.

It will be the third time Ms Beard, who was awarded an OAM in 2011 for her services to the arts, has taken on the role.

"I really like being a senior - I've had such a wonderful life, I've got nothing to whinge about," she said. "This role allows me to go out there and tell others that rather than worrying about getting older, they should be enjoying it and revelling in it.

"Since I've turned 70, I've felt a lot wiser and more confident about saying what I really think about things - after all, I've had enough time to make my mind up about them."

Ms Beard remains involved in the arts and runs exercise and tap-dancing classes for seniors.

"I've had a small stroke and three hip replacements but life doesn't stop," she said. "The doctors can fix your hip and then it's up to you to make yourself well again."

Ms Beard started out her career as a dancer before appearing in some of Australia's best-loved series including A Country Practice, The Flying Doctors and Number 96 as well as musicals such as Chicago.

"People still remember me for the Palmolive ad though," she said, with a laugh. "They recognise my voice, and the catchcry 'You know you're soaking in it'."

Other ambassadors include Better Homes and Gardens presenter Graham Ross and 2014 NSW Senior Australian of the Year Peter Ford.
