Foreman trial: assault offer alleged

Bradley Max Rawlinson tried to hire a prostitute to "bash" Katie Foreman in the months before her October 2011 death, a court has heard.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told the NSW Supreme Court yesterday Rawlinson offered to pay her more than $2000 to assault Ms Foreman while she was on her regular evening walk near WIN Stadium.

"He said she was in the law, a solicitor ... she lived at Corrimal," the woman said.

"He said she was causing him problems and dramas."

Ms Foreman died when a deliberately lit fire tore through her Corrimal home in the early hours of October 27, 2011.

Rawlinson, along with western Sydney couple Bernard Justin Spicer and Michelle Sharon Proud, are on trial accused of murdering Ms Foreman.

A fourth person, Wendy Anne Evans, has already pleaded guilty to a charge of murder.

The prostitute told the court she had known Rawlinson for a couple of years as a client when he asked her if she could do a job for him.

"He asked if I could go down to where she goes walking of an evening ... go and belt her up, so she [ended up] in hospital," the woman said.

"At first I said I'd think about it. Afterwards I said no."

When asked to divulge more information about the alleged proposition, including how and where she was going to be paid, she said she couldn't give further details as they had never been discussed.

The court heard the woman had a history of illicit drug use, but considered herself a reliable person "most of the time".

Meantime, the jury also heard from former colleagues of Wendy Evans, who said she'd been left devastated and angry after discovering Ms Foreman had allegedly slept with her ex-boyfriend, Scott Field, as well as Evans's oldest son, Ashley.

Port Kembla court employees Anne Davis and Bruiceen Coulthard said Evans made the allegations to them in different email and face-to-face conversations in mid-2011.

"[Evans] said 'Katie and I are no longer friends because Katie had sex with Scott and my son Ashley'. But she said she was no longer worried about Scott because she was seeing Katie's ex-boyfriend," Mrs Davis said of one conversation with Evans.

"She said 'Katie thinks she's so smart because her dad's an ex-copper ... she may be able to organise cocaine, but I can organise a bullet'," Mrs Davis said.

Mrs Coulthard said Evans had previously told her Mr Field was her "one true love", but during a conversation between her and Evans in mid-2011, Evans said "it doesn't matter how much I love him, this is the biggest".

When asked what she thought Evans meant by "the biggest", Mrs Coulthard said she took it to mean the biggest betrayal by Mr Field.

During another conversation between the pair, Mrs Coulthard said Evans told her: "Katie f---ed with the wrong family. Every dog has its day."

She also allegedly told Mrs Coulthard: "I slept with Katie's ex [boyfriend], I wonder how she'll feel about that."

Another of Evans's acquaintances, Sian Regal, told jurors she saw Ms Foreman kiss Evans's son Ashley on the dance floor of the Harp Hotel while they were out celebrating Rawlinson's birthday.

Ms Regal said she and Ms Foreman discussed it the next day via text message, with Ms Foreman admitting it had been a stupid thing to do.

Ms Foreman also said Rawlinson had "chucked a psycho" when he found out, Ms Regal said.

The trial continues before Justice Ian Harrison.
