Two Brothers and Some Friends, filmed and edited by Jose Martinez, began as a short clip of the filmmaker shooting his friends surfing three years ago.
The movie quickly turned into a hobby, combining his favourite activities - filming and surfing.
"If the surf was pumping, I'd take time out of my work schedule and shoot some film," he said.
"I just made time for it, surfing is a passion.
"I love getting out into the water, the freedom and the headspace of it."
The 30-year-old filmmaker has already received positive feedback after he released a shorter version of the film on video site Vimeo.
"People have told me they were glued to the screen the whole time," he said.
"Some of these guys are charging some big waves."
In addition to shooting the surfers, Mr Martinez has captured stunning sunsets and scenery along the Illawarra coastline.
"I love how a picture tells a story or makes you feel," he said.
He hoped the film would premiere to a full house at 5pm on Sunday.
