Gloomy skies and soggy fields did little to dampen the enthusiasm of hundreds of sporty people as they rowed, ran and walked for the Shell Cove Shellharbour City Festival of Sport at the weekend.

The two-day festival, which is now in its 16th year, raised funds for the NSW Cancer Council and Shellharbour Hospital through events such as dragon boating and a fun run or walk through Shell Cove.
Festival secretary Diane Johnston said spirits remained high throughout the weekend, with participant numbers close to a record.
‘‘We had a great turnout and there were lots of people there to support the events who made the most of it,’’ she said.
Ms Johnston said a little extra water was no trouble on Saturday during the Dragon Boat Challenge, when 26 teams representing businesses, community organisations and schools paddled it out over a 200-metre course at Oak Flats.
‘‘The teams battled the wet weather, but it went really well,’’ Ms Johnston said.
‘‘There were quite a few new teams and everyone had a good time.
‘‘Overall, we had a great weekend despite the weather, and we look forward to doing it all again next year,’’ Ms Johnston said.
