Garvey and his lawyer attended Wollongong Police Station on Tuesday afternoon where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray over an incident at the Hotel Illawarra last Thursday night.
The 21-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on March 25.
Garvey left the police station about 4.20pm.
Neither he nor his lawyer responded to the Mercury’s questions.
Police issued a statement on Tuesday night confirming a 21-year-old man would face court later this month ‘‘after an alleged assault at a licensed premises in Wollongong’’.
‘‘About 10.20pm on Thursday, February 27, 2014, an altercation occurred between two men at a licensed premises on Keira Street,’’ the statement said.
‘‘A 26-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Public Hospital for treatment of eye and cheek injuries.
‘‘Detectives from Wollongong Local Area Command began an investigation.’’
The Dragons stood down Garvey on Friday after what the club said was a breach of its code of conduct.
