South Coast mining engineer, burns survivor and life champion Turia Pitt was on Friday named NSW's 2014 woman of the year.
Ms Pitt, from Narrawallee near Ulladulla, was recognised for her resilience, philanthropy and educational achievements. In 2011, she was one of four marathon runners trapped in a bushfire in the Kimberley region.
She suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, spent two months in a coma and had had more than 100 operations, including skin grafts using skin imported from California.
Ms Pitt's motto has become "never, never, never give up".
Other South Coast women recognised were Fiona Shewring from Wollongong, Annette Holmes from Albion Park Rail and Kimberley Abbott from Werri Beach.
