The Top Blokes Foundation is the only Wollongong-based charity chosen to participate in Dick Smith's latest $1 million giveaway.
Managing director Melissa Abu-Gazaleh is asking for corporate and community support to help Top Blokes get enough votes to share the money.
Illawarra residents and businesses can vote by taking a photo of a Dick Smith food, such as peanut butter or jam, at home or at work.
The photo can be either emailed or sent by sms to email@example.com.
Ms Abu-Gazaleh said workplaces were particularly good for her charity to target, because the more people who were in a photo, the more votes that photo attracted.
She and the Top Blokes Team are encouraging businesses to gather their teams together and share some Dick Smith products over lunch and then take a photo of staff with the Dick Smith products.
Each person in the photo counted as one vote and increases the Top Blokes Foundation's chance to win funding.
Ms Abu-Gazaleh is hoping for $50,000 and said that would make such a huge difference to the youth-led organisation, which has empowered more than 450 young men aged between 14 and 24 to reach their personal best and make positive life choices through mentoring, leadership and resilience programs. She said the members of the foundation were passionate about providing a platform for young men to develop personal qualities including integrity, character and respect while becoming positive role models to their peers.
Ms Abu-Gazaleh said the charity relied totally on philanthropic, corporate and community donations to try to engage 600 young men a year.
