About 6.40pm Wednesday, police tried to stop a black Mazda NEO as it sped to 80km/h in a 50km/h zone.

Police followed the driver north on Landy Drive where he mounted a kerb and stopped.

Police said the 19-year-old ran off while a passenger was arrested a short distance from the car.

The 19-year-old was located a short time later attempting to hide in a creek.

He told police he had been smoking crystal meth, and was taken to Shellharbour Hospital to undergo a blood and urine test.
