The Terry Street landmark, also known as the bikini tree, has been entertaining residents since someone started painting it about 10 years ago.

Chris Bennett, known as "Poodle" by his Albion Park neighbours, said polka dots and stripes had been added to the tree over the years.

"I've touched it up a few times and it's even had a bra hanging from it," he said.

"I think it's better than the bum tree."

From across the road, Terry Street Kids Childcare Centre director Merrin Callaghan said staff enjoyed watching new designs appear intermittently.

Samantha Smith, 45, said the tree was a classic fixture in town and nearby residents and businesses used the tree to direct family and friends to the area.

"You never see anybody painting it, though. It's faded one day and freshly done the next morning," she said.

"I would be annoyed if it was cut down."
