Shell Cove interior designer Kirsty Murphy proved she is a fashion force to be reckoned with winning the most stylish female contemporary racewear category, just months after taking out a top fashion award at Kembla Grange’s Melbourne Cup race day last year.
On Sunday the 36-year-old was decked out in a Manning Cartell dress, accented with accessories in royal blue.
‘‘It’s autumn so I’ve got the felt through the headpiece, which is from Terence Gregory,’’ she said.
‘‘The dress is very unique so I wanted to run with a classic colour through the fascinator, bag and the shoe.’’
Myer Shellharbour store manager Byron Holt, who was among the judges, said they were looking for a season-appropriate outfit that was ‘‘on trend’’ and perhaps colourful, floral or knee-length.
Sydneysider Camilla Piggott made a last-minute decision to travel to Kembla Grange to watch her friend’s horse Onyeka run its first race - and ended up winning the hotly-contested most stylish female classic racewear category too.
She took out the title wearing an Alannah Hill satin peplum dress, faux-fur shrug and shoes, and matching hat made by milliner Kerry McGlone.
Runner-up Brooke Strahan, who looked striking in a cream structured dress, entered the competition alongside her aunt Lesley Zandstra, who was wearing a hat Ms Strahan made from a placemat.
Warrawong’s Michael Hancock was the best of the blokes, beating a field of eight to win most stylish male in a charcoal suit, and plum shirt and tie.
